Europa Clipper Propulsion Module

In a cleanroom at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, Europa Clipper's propulsion module harness, installed onto a bake-out fixture, is rolled up to the propulsion module in preparation for transfer and installation.

One of Europa Clipper’s star tracker optical heads in a JPL clean room for testing in October 2021. After the spacecraft’s launch in October 2024, the star tracker will autonomously identify stars to determine Europa Clipper’s orientation in space. The device is essential for precisely pointing the spacecraft’s science instruments and communication antennas.

Four reaction wheels are seen here, one in each of the four corners of the image. The reaction wheels are black. In the configuration shown, the wheels are visible from their sides, which allows you to see the wiring and other mechanical equipment attached to the reaction wheels. In the middle of this image you can see a silver triangle, which is base of the main body of the spacecraft. Thick bundles of gold wires extend from the reaction wheels, with green tape holding the bundles into place as the spacecraft continues through assembly.
